1000s of Catsは東京を拠点に活動するデュオで、根橋園子（ギター）とデイヴ・ガッチェル（ドラム）からなる。2006年から活動していて、ギターとドラムだけのシンプルな編成で、反復・抑制・スピード感をぶつけ合うような音を作っている。
名前はMillions of Cats（Wanda Gág作）から取られていて、短い曲やストレートな構成、無駄を削ぎ落としたスタイルといった、コントロールされた過剰さみたいな感覚をベースにしている。
これまでにアルバムやEPを自主リリースしてきていて、作品は完成された“答え”というより、続いていくプロセスの記録に近い。重視しているのは、動き、無駄のなさ、そして「やらない」という選択。
1000s of Cats is a Tokyo-based duo of Sonoko Nebashi (guitar) and Dave Gatchell (drums). Active since 2006, they work within a reduced format—guitar and drums—pushing repetition, restraint, and velocity against each other.
Named after Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág, the project draws on a kind of controlled excess: short forms, direct structures, minimal ornament.
Their recordings—self-released across albums and EPs—document an ongoing process rather than fixed statements. The emphasis is on movement, economy, and refusal.
